I think (90% sure) I’m going to stay in Korea another year.

20 Apr The last few months I have spent a lot of time thinking about whether or not I will stay in Korea another year as contract renewal is upon us very soon. Or at least a verbal commitment followed by signing of the contract about a month later.   At this point I think I want to move schools. Some of my friends are leaving so I would request to take their position. They are closer to downtown, and are in a really nice neighborhood with lots of foreigners and near the University.  Anyways here is the list. If you have any guidance or ideas about what I write here, please feel free to advise! Why Korea is Great and I should stay.  Friends in Korea .  I know it’s not the same as my friends that I grew up with back at home. but my friends here who are in the same situation, similar type of adventurous people, and people who are always up for anything, are a blast to be around. They have really made my time here fly by. Bond...

Springy Spring

Springy Spring!        16 Apr Last weekend we had a nice adventure trying to get to Seoul! I’ve never had a problem getting a bus ticket on a Friday night but I usually go earlier then when we went  because it takes Nichole a bit to get home from school in the mountains.  I wanted to just hop on a bus from the express bus terminal and go from there. It takes us much closer to Shane’s house than the other bus terminal. Marlene had come from Gyeongju to meet us and taken the bus in Pohang to switch bus terminals! We got there and tickets were sold out until 9. So we rush back to the other bus terminal to find their tickets are sold out until 9 as well. I whip out my phone and try and figure out if there are KTX tickets available. There are. So we hop on a bus to get to the KTX station. I asked the driver several times before sitting down because we were in a rush. Each time I asked he said yes, Gyeongju KTX.. We get about 5 minutes down th...

Weekend

Weekend!         6 Apr  I feel like I haven’t stopped running since last Friday when I sat down and wrote last week.. I can’t wait until next weekend to sleep in! Last Friday afterschool I went to the bus terminal to pick up Lucy. From there we headed downtown to hang out with a few friends then got dinner at a little Italian place. I had this cheesy bacon risotto thing which was delicious! After that we met up with Michael to go Salsa dancing, I wanted to catch up since I had missed class the week before. However it was a salsa party soo they were doing some other kind of beat and really didn’t get a ton of practice but Lucy had fun trying to dance and laughing. After that we all went and got some coffee then headed back to get some sleep. As soon as we got up Sat we headed to Ulsan to meet Lucy’s friend from her Phillipines trip named Janna. She was such a sweetheart and we had a delicious lunch. Afterwards Lucy & and wandered around Ulsan...

Frisbee, Friends, and Fitness

Frisbee, Friends, and Fitness!         30 Mar  This last week has been very busy again. Friday night taught the high school boys again and it went much better then the weds class. I knew what to expect, planned a few different things and a few extras and things to make the class go a little smoother. I really enjoyed it. And because of their obsession with American women they really dig having a “hot” teacher and are usually pretty quiet for me and respectful.  After that went to salsa dance and catch up on some moves. Saturday went on a hike with a few friends. Then had a birthday dinner at an Indian Place and got some delicious curry. Then it was open mic after that so caught up with some friends, made some new friends, and enjoyed the music! Sunday woke up early and headed to Daegu to meet with my friend AB from orientation and to catch up and chat over some lunch. We got some to go food and ate at his apartment as he has a really sweet...

St Paddy's in Korea and 9th grade boys

I’ve been reading a few friends blogs and a lot of us we are done with the half way point and lots of friends/family from back home that used to comment all the time on the interesting culture shock stories of our beginning days has stopped. Many of us wonder if people still even read. haha was very funny to see that many people still feel the same, but like I said last week, if not for anything else the blog will be a reminder to myself of this year as a waygookin in Korea. St. P’s weekend was nice. I went to Busan with a few girls and they had found an outdoor hot springs spa that was the oldest in Korea they wanted to try out. But when we got there it was your standard jimjilbang. They were not keen with being naked, but at least they got to experience it and see the jimjilbang culture. I loved it as usual, always feel much better after being cleansed, sweaty, and a refreshing shower! After that we headed to Haeundae Beach which is where our hostel was and where the Irish Pub ...

Let the busy-ness begin

Life is about to get so crazy, I couldn't’ be more excited about it! Hopefully my blog can still find an update once a week!!  Last weekend was Simone’s Going Away Adventure Party! She lives in the mountains in our province and I had found that she has a ziplining course in her town so wanted to go once it got warmer. So she booked the trip for us! 10 friends trekked to her city and went ziplining. It was an absolute blast. We had to leave Pohang pretty early to catch the buses and make the correct bus times but we got there in perfect time. My fellow Pohangers were not in good shape as they had all gone out drinking the night before. I was smart and stayed in and got a good nights sleep! The ziplining was so exhilarating! The first one was the scariest, its so intimidating to just jump off a ledge over a million trees really high up! Anyways after the first one I absolutely loved it and was spinning all over the place, going backwards, and I asked the guides if we could go ...
