Frisbee, Friends, and Fitness

Frisbee, Friends, and Fitness!        30 Mar

This last week has been very busy again. Friday night taught the high school boys again and it went much better then the weds class. I knew what to expect, planned a few different things and a few extras and things to make the class go a little smoother. I really enjoyed it. And because of their obsession with American women they really dig having a “hot” teacher and are usually pretty quiet for me and respectful.  After that went to salsa dance and catch up on some moves. Saturday went on a hike with a few friends. Then had a birthday dinner at an Indian Place and got some delicious curry. Then it was open mic after that so caught up with some friends, made some new friends, and enjoyed the music!

Sunday woke up early and headed to Daegu to meet with my friend AB from orientation and to catch up and chat over some lunch. We got some to go food and ate at his apartment as he has a really sweet set up in the mountains overlooking most of Daegu! He also introduced me to a South African alcohol called Amurula which is a fermented fruit that elephants eat and get drunk off as well as people now! It was really nice served with some vanilla ice cream! After that hopped on the subway to navigate to my games! This weekend we won a game and lost the second game in over time. It was really close and we played really well.

This week has been mostly just busy busy! Monday I went running with Abby (one of the newbies by me). Tuesday went on a 10 mile bike ride, and then had dinner club. Ed made “Macanese Pork” I have no idea exactly how he made it but it was delicious. I made some banana bread for dessert which was a hit, as people really really miss the stuff. Weds was the high school class again. I taught a lesson on social media and technology. The good and bad. This lesson went over pretty well, and usually as long as I give them time to speak they are quiet for when I want to talk.  Thurs I spent most of the time preparing the finishing touches on taxes and taking care of things on the home front.  But the good news is, as of 10 minutes ago, they are finished! I signed the forms and Brandon will send them off tomorrow! I am so thankful for technology and being able to do them from over here without having anything. And how amazing that I can get my credit card print out which includes exactly what I spent at each utility company every month. Last night I went for a 3 mile run mostly without stopping to get ready for my race this weekend! Am a little nervous about the shoes, as my feet were a bit sore this morning but I think it should be fine.

I had some culinary adventures this week. Monday night I made black bean, spinach, carrot, zuchinni brownies. A friend made them for the bday girl on Saturday so I asked for the recipe and tried them out. They were pretty awesome. Once you get over the fact that, indeed you are eating veggies covered in chocolate it’s awesome. Then my first frozen pizza.. the crust tasted like cardboard, but the things I added helped tremendously! Finally a baked pumpkin. I didn’t realize how small the pumpkin was that I bought, so chopped up way too much stuff for it but put in mashed potatoes, carrots, onion, garlic, basil, oregano, and stuck it in the oven for an hour. Turned out really well. Also made the pumpkin seeds, put some oil, cinnamon, and brown sugar in them and they were also very good.

Soo sorry I know a few people have been wanting to skype! The 16 hour time difference is insane! So if at any point this weekend I’m on a bus and not asleep I will be sure to have skype signed on! Otherwise if you get up early during the week I can always skype like 7am AZ time 11pm my time! Lots of love and extra shout out to Beth for helping send all my tax info and sorting all my mail since September! :)

Winter in Melbs

In the blink of an eye, it's already July. Again, it is such a strange feeling because it feels like Christmas should be any day now with the backwards seasons, days are super short, the cold, snow in the higher areas of Victoria. No better way to confuse the girl who hasn't been home for Holidays in ages and been skipping out on winters for a few years now. For a sun worshipping, desert dwelling lover, the Melbourne winter has been less than desirable. It's no Korean winter, however the rain, the cold, the wind, and super early darkness have me missing anything about warmth and summer.  Which is why I am literally counting down the days until I leave for Hawaii.. 16 more days! My family is blessed to have the opportunity to celebrate Cody's graduation from law school from the University of Arizona in May. He has already landed a full time job and will take the bar exam after our trip in Hawaii. Meeting the family in Hawaii will work out perfectly as it's as half...

Travel Tales so far in 2018

Ok onto the fun stuff! The travels of the year!  My mom came to visit for 5 weeks from the end of March until May. It was really nice to have her here to keep us company, do some gardening work, and we went on a little trip as well during her time here. In Portugal we went to Coimbra together for the day, Soito to enjoy the Senora da Granja festival, and Obidos. My mom also visited Lisbon on her own. In between her visits in Portugal we headed to Toulouse where we visited our great friends who are French but raised their girls, similar in age to myself in the Phoenix! One of their daughters lives in NY and Melissa was currently staying with her parents but kind of floating around working in sustainable fashion design. She was working on a project while we were there creating a dress from plastic bottles! I loved seeing some of her photos of her work!  Anyways, They moved back to France after Melissa graduated High School in AZ early. It was so much fun to catch ...

En Panama es Tranquila

The rest of my time in Costa Rica was awesome and a little dried than before, thank goodness! And to update you... I didn't have any problems with my ATM cards, turns out it was all of the three machines in Monteverde which apparently don't accept mastercard even though the banks say they do! Crisis averted :) I spent my birthday on a bus and a boat gtting to Montezuma. Montezuma was soo cute, and small. The atomsphere was fabulous.  I headed to the beach as soon as I arrived and met some French Canadians who were throwing a frisbee. We went out to dinner and they treated me to my bday dinner. After, I hung out with an Aussie I met in my hostel and the bar made sure to play their cheesy "feliz cumpleanos" song and some free shots of Casique.. the Costa Rican sugar cane rum.. Which is quite rough, kind of like rubbing alcohol. The days after that I enjoyed a waterfall hike with Adam, the Aussie, days on the beach, and a snorkeling tour. After Montezuma, I headed...
