Frisbee, Friends, and Fitness

Frisbee, Friends, and Fitness!         30 Mar  This last week has been very busy again. Friday night taught the high school boys again and it went much better then the weds class. I knew what to expect, planned a few different things and a few extras and things to make the class go a little smoother. I really enjoyed it. And because of their obsession with American women they really dig having a “hot” teacher and are usually pretty quiet for me and respectful.  After that went to salsa dance and catch up on some moves. Saturday went on a hike with a few friends. Then had a birthday dinner at an Indian Place and got some delicious curry. Then it was open mic after that so caught up with some friends, made some new friends, and enjoyed the music! Sunday woke up early and headed to Daegu to meet with my friend AB from orientation and to catch up and chat over some lunch. We got some to go food and ate at his apartment as he has a really sweet...

St Paddy's in Korea and 9th grade boys

I’ve been reading a few friends blogs and a lot of us we are done with the half way point and lots of friends/family from back home that used to comment all the time on the interesting culture shock stories of our beginning days has stopped. Many of us wonder if people still even read. haha was very funny to see that many people still feel the same, but like I said last week, if not for anything else the blog will be a reminder to myself of this year as a waygookin in Korea. St. P’s weekend was nice. I went to Busan with a few girls and they had found an outdoor hot springs spa that was the oldest in Korea they wanted to try out. But when we got there it was your standard jimjilbang. They were not keen with being naked, but at least they got to experience it and see the jimjilbang culture. I loved it as usual, always feel much better after being cleansed, sweaty, and a refreshing shower! After that we headed to Haeundae Beach which is where our hostel was and where the Irish Pub ...

Let the busy-ness begin

Life is about to get so crazy, I couldn't’ be more excited about it! Hopefully my blog can still find an update once a week!!  Last weekend was Simone’s Going Away Adventure Party! She lives in the mountains in our province and I had found that she has a ziplining course in her town so wanted to go once it got warmer. So she booked the trip for us! 10 friends trekked to her city and went ziplining. It was an absolute blast. We had to leave Pohang pretty early to catch the buses and make the correct bus times but we got there in perfect time. My fellow Pohangers were not in good shape as they had all gone out drinking the night before. I was smart and stayed in and got a good nights sleep! The ziplining was so exhilarating! The first one was the scariest, its so intimidating to just jump off a ledge over a million trees really high up! Anyways after the first one I absolutely loved it and was spinning all over the place, going backwards, and I asked the guides if we could go ...

School Dinners Galore

It was definitely an interesting week at school. For the most part it went ok. The first days with both of my grades were rather boring, we just went over the characters in their textbooks, some rules, and a few other admin things. My fifth graders seemed very happy to have me as a teacher again. They were also pretty well behaved with our new “Angry Birds” Class Rewards System. If the class behaves really well the whole class, they get one sticker. When they get 10, we’ll have a game day. When they get 20, we’ll have a food party. The kiddos were so excited about this so I hope it does something.  Last semester I was always so puzzled why does this country spend so much money on English education, when the kids don’t even try! i’m sure at their academies or private schools they are doing well because the parents are paying for it. However at school, we couldn’t even get them to write 10 words twice for homework. It’s ridiculous. I asked my co teacher why they don’t have gra...

Ski trip and First Day of School

Last weekend I went with Marlene to Yongpyong Resort in Gangwando Province to go skiing/snowboarding! We wanted to go to this place specifically because they are one of the resorts hosting the 2018 Olympics! A huge group of friends were supposed to come but they all bailed and said it was too expensive or they couldn’t figure out how to take the buses.. Which is ridiculous, Marlene and I live the furthest from anyone but still got there and didn’t really have any problems.. mainly! We left Friday at 2pm and arrived around 9. There was supposed to be a free shuttle bus, but it didn’t come to the place they told us to wait. We saw it drive by but no such luck! :/ So it took us a little longer then expected but still wasn’t bad at all. We stayed in the Youth Hostel on the mountain for 11 bucks a night for bunk beds. There was no key to the room or free lockers, there were paid lockers. But we just brought our valuables with us, and locked them with our shoes in the ski area. We main...
