Life of Luke part 2

September 20, 2020

With the snap of a finger our sweet Luke is already almost 6 months old. Reading through the last post, so much has changed with him!

He sleeps all night in his crib, and recently we have stopped giving him a dream feed (a feeding while he continues to sleep but before we go to bed), and only feed him once during the night when he wakes up. His bed time is around 730pm and he wakes up usually around 2-3am to eat, and sleeps until 6am or some days later. We have also started to do a little bit of sleep training to help him learn to fall asleep on his own. It is really hard to listen to him cry, but he has learned so quickly. We started last Monday and stayed in the room with him with a hand on his chest while he cried for a long time, the next night only two minutes and then he didn't cry at all when we put him in bed the nights after that. Every once in a while he will cry but it's not for very long and he gets nice and comfy, sometimes sleeping on his side. We got him a sleeping sack because he started rolling to his side and getting his legs stuck in the crib slats. Now that he is able to roll he sometimes sleeps on his sides and it is the cutest! Unless he wakes himself up when he flips back over.

He seems so ready to begin eating solid foods but we are following the advice of the WHO to wait until at least six months to begin. He loves to sit in his high chair at the table during our meal times and play with his utensils, toys, and watch us eat.  We have been able to stretch out his feedings to closer to three hours, especially if he is having a great time!

On September 10th, he rolled from his back to his belly for the first time! He had been able to roll side to belly for a long time but finally was able to put it all together! We are so happy as we had been practicing that for a while! Now it's hard to keep him on his back.

His little personality is in full swing! He has little facial expressions and love moving his eyebrows, he has quite a birdy voice and tons of giggles. He tells us when he is bored or uncomfortable. When he is in a good mood, he can play by himself for 20 minutes or so before asking for mom to come back to play with him!

He is still not a great sleeper during the day, but we have recently started getting 32-40 minute naps, which sounds short, which it is, it is still better than the 23 minutes he used to do previously!

Naturally at this stage, everything loves to be explored in his mouth. He is getting really coordinated moving his hands to his mouth to do so. He can sometimes bring his pacifier to his mouth correctly, often times it is backwards. :P

He had his first fever after a vaccine and handled it like a champion! Was a little grumpy, slept a little extra and woke up the next day totally fine!

Mel is slowly starting to adjust to him again. She has started to cry when he cries, which can be stressful when I am by myself, but she is letting him sit a little closer, pet her and maybe soon they will be playing together.

Luke still loves to listen to stories and we read a story before every nap and at night before bed. He sits through the whole book and seems to really focus in on the pictures. He often stops his crying of fussing once I go to the bookshelf. They are magical.

The only travel we have squeezed in since my last post was to visit Joel's hometown of Soito to celebrate Joel's birthday. It was a nice visit but Luke isn't accustomed to the heat they have there! Joel and I cycled to a nearby dam/lake and enjoyed beautiful walks in the morning before the heat. It's always nice to relax and enjoy the calmness and peace in Soito.

Here are some pictures of the last few months! Sending lots of love to everyone during these crazy times!

Winter in Melbs

In the blink of an eye, it's already July. Again, it is such a strange feeling because it feels like Christmas should be any day now with the backwards seasons, days are super short, the cold, snow in the higher areas of Victoria. No better way to confuse the girl who hasn't been home for Holidays in ages and been skipping out on winters for a few years now. For a sun worshipping, desert dwelling lover, the Melbourne winter has been less than desirable. It's no Korean winter, however the rain, the cold, the wind, and super early darkness have me missing anything about warmth and summer.  Which is why I am literally counting down the days until I leave for Hawaii.. 16 more days! My family is blessed to have the opportunity to celebrate Cody's graduation from law school from the University of Arizona in May. He has already landed a full time job and will take the bar exam after our trip in Hawaii. Meeting the family in Hawaii will work out perfectly as it's as half...

Lukey Boy!

Just a quick post to write about our sweet Lukey boy!  Luke loves (is obsessed one could say) with " folding" the laundry! After arriving home from school, he would always ask if  I did the laundry. Then proceed to fold it right away. He does a great job with shorts, socks, and towels. The rest are still a bit wrinkly but at least he goes for it and sorts everything into piles for me! It's the cutest thing. If he is at home while the laundry is drying on the line, he insists I check it every few minutes to see if something new has dried.  He loves getting the weekly grocery ads and telling me how much everything costs. His ability to count, do basic addition and subtraction seems to have improved by tons in the last month or so. He is addicted to playing go fish and crazy eights. He can't quite hold the cars in his hand so usually he uses a box so we can't see his cards but he begs to play everyday.  Big news as hot wheels isn't his number 1, favorite thing an...

Ollie boy!

Here are some little stories about things that Ollie says and does.  He is write the little character nowadays. As Luke has kind of taken a side step from his hot wheels, it seems like Ollie has stepped into the void and he is enjoying hot wheels city and racing cars down the tracks.  He loves to sing, he can Happy Birthday in English and Portuguese. And for people who aren't Portuguese, almost none of the words repeat themselves in PT, so you have to learn a lot of words which I think is very impressive for a two year old. He loves Cookie Monster. He will dress up as Cookie Monster for Halloween, and I will be his sidekick, Elmo. Luke really wanted to get him to join in the Pokemon theme but Ollie wasn't having that. The day it came in the mail, we had to bust it out of the packaging and put it on, even though it was 25 degrees or something that day. He was completely covered in sweat but so happy to have his cookie. He has a Seasame Street book with buttons and songs a...
