South Island NZ Road Trip

Hello Again!
I thought I would try a cool little feature that I wasn't positive google would have, but figured they must! You can create your own maps with layers, colors, and stops, etc. I will admit that I am a noob on this, but it was fun to try. Hopefully I can master it one day.

This is the route we drove along in the South Island in New Zealand. We arrived the afternoon of April 3rd and flew out April 9th. So it was less than 6 full days! It was a whirlwind and I know one guy who might not have enjoyed that much car time, but gotta see all the amazing stuff right?

 Arthurs Pass

 Hokikita Gorge

 Franz Josef Glacier

Lake Mattheson, on a clear day with calm waters has a perfect reflection of Franz Josef Glacier.

Coming down from Lake Wanaka to Queenstown
Milford Sound on a beautiful sunny day!

The Tunnel to Milford Sound, built in the 1930s. It's an amazing work of construction!

Beth and Joel searching for Geocaches
 Queenstown
Cheese Tasting at a super small adorable place near Twizel. The maker was super friendly and had all sorts of funny tales to tell us.

 Lake Tekapo
Kiwis have the funniest (in the nicest way) accents and are so much fun to listen to. For food, it was very similar to Australia. I can't think of anything that really stood out. In the car we usually made our own sandwiches. We cooked steaks and made some macaroni and cheese one night. The last night we ate at a little tiny Korean restaurant which did not disappoint.

I was surprised at the amount of Disc Golf Courses in NZ. Seemed that in so many places we happened upon a course. We also introduced my parents to Geocaching.  After we started Geocaching we couldn't stop. There were so many caches and some lead us on some cool little walks to find them. Like in Queenstown, we had only planned to stop by for a bit but the area was so beautiful with the leaves changing colors for fall.

It was so much fun to have a good old road trip with my parents. They are down for anything, and great company. We were lucky to have such good weather. With clouds only obstructing our views once or twice. :P

Winter in Melbs

In the blink of an eye, it's already July. Again, it is such a strange feeling because it feels like Christmas should be any day now with the backwards seasons, days are super short, the cold, snow in the higher areas of Victoria. No better way to confuse the girl who hasn't been home for Holidays in ages and been skipping out on winters for a few years now. For a sun worshipping, desert dwelling lover, the Melbourne winter has been less than desirable. It's no Korean winter, however the rain, the cold, the wind, and super early darkness have me missing anything about warmth and summer.  Which is why I am literally counting down the days until I leave for Hawaii.. 16 more days! My family is blessed to have the opportunity to celebrate Cody's graduation from law school from the University of Arizona in May. He has already landed a full time job and will take the bar exam after our trip in Hawaii. Meeting the family in Hawaii will work out perfectly as it's as half...

Lukey Boy!

Just a quick post to write about our sweet Lukey boy!  Luke loves (is obsessed one could say) with " folding" the laundry! After arriving home from school, he would always ask if  I did the laundry. Then proceed to fold it right away. He does a great job with shorts, socks, and towels. The rest are still a bit wrinkly but at least he goes for it and sorts everything into piles for me! It's the cutest thing. If he is at home while the laundry is drying on the line, he insists I check it every few minutes to see if something new has dried.  He loves getting the weekly grocery ads and telling me how much everything costs. His ability to count, do basic addition and subtraction seems to have improved by tons in the last month or so. He is addicted to playing go fish and crazy eights. He can't quite hold the cars in his hand so usually he uses a box so we can't see his cards but he begs to play everyday.  Big news as hot wheels isn't his number 1, favorite thing an...

I'm sitting here in my parents lake house, while Luke naps with some free time and wanted to see the last time I wrote something here and was shocked as usual to discover it has been more than six months! :O    Luke is changing overnight in every way! He is still quite the chatterbox with people he is familiar. He can use 6 word sentences in English and Portuguese and even remembers what language to speak to different people in his life! It's incredible. I don't see him struggle to switch language when Joel asks something in Portuguese and then a minute later I ask something different in English.   Some people would tell us that when Luke started to speak he would be confused with two languages but that is completely inaccurate. He doesn't miss a beat.   You definitely learn what you (the parent) say a lot when your child is learning to speak. For a long time he was using "How about...?" all the time. (How about the green car? How about a banana?...
